Sister City Connection: Spoken Word Fundraiser July 23rd

On Thursday, July 23rd, join us at Beloved from 6:30-8:30 pm for a spoken word fundraiser to support some of Birmingham’s best youth poets!

This is a unique event featuring Birmingham’s own women’s spoken word collective, Sister City Connection, performing in concert with youth poets from Birmingham’s Real Life Poets.

This July 15-19, a team of young poets developed by Real Life Poets will represent Birmingham at the Youth Speaks – Brave New Voices Festival in Atlanta. Last year the team, #KnowDisclaimer, placed in the top 20 and made it to the semi-finals. This year they want to make it to finals and are asking for your support to help sponsor six young poets!

Real Life Poets, Inc. is a nonprofit organization serving Birmingham youth through mentoring, communication skills, spoken word, poetry, and the arts. Brave New Voices is the world’s largest ongoing spoken word event promoting intellectual and artistic self-development, spotlighting youth, their poetry, and their lives. Birmingham’s poets will receive intensive opportunities to improve their art alongside youth from all around the world.

Real Life Poets paid $1,500 to register, but still needs your help to pay for travel and expenses, around $900.

This event is scheduled after the team returns from Brave New Voices, but all donations collected at the event will go to supporting ongoing and future programs.
