Lenten Reflection from Palmer Maxwell: Honor your rebellion

lent2

“Remember  and do not forget how you provoked the Lord your God in the wilderness. You have been rebelling against the Lord from the day you left the land of Egypt until you reached this place.” Deuteronomy 9:7

Honor your rebellion-

Know that it has no fixed domain-

Will not harm you-

Will lead you, rather,  beyond the common vision-

To your true inheritance and appropriate reign.

You are the surveyor

Of a route not of your own making-

An architect of an awareness not of your own imagining-

A wisdom received but meant to be shared with prodigal indiscretion.

Listen to, but do not obey blindly, the voices of caution and practicality:

There never was a Creator who created this way-by counting and measuring-
The cost-

When every wave and wind signal the ecstasy of a lucid gift:

God’s love- revealed for us in what we call the “passion” of the Son.

Lukewarm is not the temperature of the prophet or the saint.

Sin boldly or don’t sin at all.

Honor your rebellion

And what is dross will dissolve.

The wilderness readies the heart for love.

Walk on.
