Justice for the Oppressed

Above: Beloveds rallied in Linn Park to protest HB56, an oppressive anti-immigration law passed in 2011. The law was fought and the worst parts were defeated in a lawsuit. You can read about the Alabama faith community’s immigration organizing in the book Love Has No Borders.

As a member of Alabama Arise we organize with low-income people to advocate for better state policies in the Alabama legislature. Contact Robyn Hyden for information.

Giving to Our Church’s Wider Mission supports the local and global mission of our denomination, the United Church of Christ. Talk to Denyse Thornley-Brown for info.

We also participate annually in the Birmingham MLK Diversity walk, Central Alabama Pride, and numerous other justice activities spearheaded by our members.
