All are welcome at our two weekly opportunities for study and conversation.
Beloved’s Bible Study group meets every Wednesday at 6 pm to pray, study scripture, and discuss films or books. Topics of discussion vary widely but have included social justice and our church’s response, lecture series from Biblical scholars, discussions of essays or films, reflecting on the Bible using our own knowledge and experiences, and in-depth study of weekly lectionary passages.
The group recently read The Last Week by Marcus Borg and Bad Girls of the Bible by Barbara Essex. Speak with Rev. Sally Harris to learn more about Bible Study – and stop by anytime!
The Liberation Theology Study group meets Sunday afternoons at 3 pm. We read and discuss works from different contemporary liberation theologies in a praxis-based approach to informing our work in the community and in the world.
The group recently worked its way through Spirit and Resistance: Political Theology and American Indian Liberation by Native American theologian George Tinker, In the Company of the Poor: Conversations with Dr. Paul Farmer and Fr. Gustavo Gutierrez, and shorter units on poetry and on urbanism. We are currently reading Stand Your Ground: Black Bodies and the Justice of God by womanist theologian Kelly Brown Douglas. Contact Rev. Jennifer Sanders for more information about the Liberation Theology Study Group.
